Research is not for the faint of heart…

It’s 2 am, and I am up participating in a research study about the use of TRPGS in education and therapy.

Why do I do this?

The first reason is that the study is taking place outside of London, and I live on the Pacific coast of the United States, so time differences create unusual interview schedules.

The second?

I really believe in furthering our understanding of how TRPGS are used in therapy and other settings. There is decades of research that has been done in this regard, and yet very few studies have captured data beyond small case studies, literature reviews, or meta analysis. All of that is to say that we need more rigor and more data that can be used to make more generalizations of what TRPGS can do to help or hinder human psychological development, growth, and healing.

And what was the result of today’s panel discussion? Well… no result actually. The researcher had to have a minimum of 5 participants who had published in the field relating to the use of TRPGS for education or therapy, and only 4 showed up…

So, I am up at 2 am writing a blog post to say. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices for science, and research is its own kind of adventure with challenges, setbacks, and it always requires a lot of resilience.
